Our Love Story {part I}

{I have a condensed version of our love story under the Our Story tab but I wanted to sit down and rewrite it in more detail this time. So in honor of Valentine’s Day, here is part one of our love story}

My sophomore year of college was a whirlwind. I was in relationship and both of us had fallen very hard, very quickly. Looking back it was an unhealthy relationship of extremes: we were either passionately in love or fighting like dogs. I thought he was “the one” but a few days before I was to leave for a semester overseas, he suddenly broke up with me. My heart was broken and all I wanted to do was cancel my semester abroad to return to campus to win him back. My parents wouldn’t let me. They convinced me to get on the plane.

I had a very different experience in Italy than my classmates. While they bonded more as a group, I had to learn to be me again. In my sadness, I lost 20 plus pounds and had many fitful, nightmare filled nights. But slowly, oh so slowly, I began to grow and enjoy the beauty, the people, and the moments around me. I came back a few months later, a lot skinnier and still wounded but with a new outlook.

The summer went by and I started my junior year. I was excited for a new beginning but I was still learning to lean on the Lord and how to be on my own. My friends and a busy schedule helped me a lot. I plunged myself into social club activities, co directed a spring show, signed up for 18 hours of classes, had a part time job, and in my free time I spent time with friends. When pledge week rolled around that fall, I enjoyed all the extra busyness and time with my club sisters and brothers. And despite my avoidance of the male type, a freshman pledging our brother club caught my eye. I asked some of my friends his name and they told me but for some reason it didn't stick, for a long time I could only remember him by his pledge name “The Klonch”. I thought he was handsome but he was a freshman and I still had no interest in dating so I didn’t pursue anything with him.

In the spring semester I continued my busy schedule and our rehearsals for the spring show were taking up most of my time. To my disappointment, the handsome freshman pledge had opted out of participating in the performance due to spring football practice but I had a wonderful time getting to know the other freshmen girls and guys. We had so much fun together. One day I was having a late lunch with one of those freshmen and "The Klonch" aka Hubby walked up and asked if he could sit with us. As he sat down the butterflies in my stomach went crazy. After that, he began coming to the student center to have lunch with me and some friends every, single day . . .
